Mona abandoned me for the last couple of miles to Hermit's Rest. She took the bus to the end to wait for me. As I continued hiking, the trail became more rugged and snowy. There were no footprints in the snow to show me the way. Since I was still walking on the edge of eternity, I used the tripod to make sure there was something beneath the snow before I stepped. At one point, as I pulled my foot out of the foot deep snow, my sneaker stayed behind. The overall scene was already unnerving, so I was glad Mona wasn't there to freak out. Photo by Stan Ford
